Knights of Columbus Giving 1,400 Coats to New Haven Area Kids

A million children have received coats from the Knights of Columbus

November 15, 16, 18, 2023, Woodbridge, CT

The Woodbridge / Bethany Knights of Columbus will give 1,400 brand new coats to New Haven area kids this holiday season.  The local Knights organized this event as part of the Knights of Columbus Coats for Kids program which has distributed over a million coats to date, giving the gift of warmth to children in need.

A truckload of new coats will be delivered at noon on Wednesday, November 15, to Our Lady of Assumption Church Hall on 81 Center Rd in Woodbridge.  Parish Knights from the Trinity Council, and other volunteers, will spend the day organizing the 1,400 coats for distribution to over two dozen local schools and organizations.

On Thursday afternoon, November 16, Knights will deliver about 700 coats, or half of the load, to organizations and schools throughout the New Haven area.

On Saturday, November 18, from 10 AM to 2 PM, in Our Lady of Assumption Church Hall Knights will give away 350 new coats to recipients on a first come – first served basis. Parents who need coats for their kids can bring the children to receive new coats in a variety of sizes from very small youth to extra-large teen in styles for boys and girls.

Our Lady of Assumption Pastor, Fr. Glen Dmytryszyn, is pleased to host this incredible program with the Knights that benefits so many local children and highlights the generous nature and community spirit of his parishioners.

The remaining 350 coats will be distributed by the Knights on Saturday, December 2, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church (115 Blatchley Ave. in New Haven) at a time to be determined.

Grand Knight Tom McCaffrey stated “Thanks to the generosity of our members, parishioners, community, and the Connecticut State Council, we more than doubled the 600 coats we distributed last year.  Putting coats on kids is a hugely meaningful and rewarding experience. Donors and volunteers gladly return year after year to support this fantastic program.”

The Knights of Columbus is a Catholic, family oriented, fraternal organization devoted to works of charity and volunteer service.  They raise funds through various community events and donate the net proceeds to worthy causes.
